Gwyneth Paltrow Expertly Shuts Down Meghan Markle Comparisons

Gwyneth Paltrow hasn’t watched Meghan Markle’s new show, but she knows enough to lend her support to the royal.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, the Goop founder said that when “there’s noise about certain women in the culture, I do have, always, a strong instinct to stand up for them.”

The Duchess of Sussex’s latest foray into the lifestyle space with her new brand, As Ever, and her new Netflix show has led to comparisons to Paltrow, Martha Stewart and the like.

But Paltrow won’t stand for anyone using her likeness to tear The Tig founder down.

“I was raised to see other women as friends, not foes,” the Oscar winner told the outlet. “I think there’s always more than enough to go around. Everybody deserves an attempt at everything that they want to try.”

“I mean, I’ve met Meghan, who seems really lovely, but I don’t know her at all,” Paltrow shared of the fellow Montecito, California, resident. “Maybe I’ll try to get through their security detail and bring them a pie.”

“The Royal Tenenbaums” actor has been equally welcoming to Kourtney Kardashian, who also got lots of comparisons to the Goop founder when Kardashian launched her own site, called Poosh.

“I was so upset when Poosh was launched and people were like, ‘This is a ripoff of Goop,’” Paltrow told People magazine last year. “I was like, this is so awful, and trying to pit us against one another, which is so crazy.”

“The world is better and stronger when women are in cahoots with one another,” Paltrow added. “I feel like the patriarchy does this thing to us where they make us feel scarcity and that there’s not enough for all of us to do our thing. And it’s so detrimental.”
