Jake Tapper Reveals Regret-Filled Call To Lara Trump After 2020 Clash

CNN’s Jake Tapper admitted Tuesday that he had personally apologized to Lara Trump for a combative interview in which he falsely accused her of mocking then-Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s stutter.

Tapper acknowledged his past comments had “aged poorly” while promoting “Original Sin” ― his new book with Axios’ Alex Thompson, which details what they describe as former President Biden’s deterioration ― to conservative pundit Megyn Kelly on the latest episode of “The Megyn Kelly Show.”

Back in October 2020, Tapper confronted President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law after she had said months earlier about Biden: “Every time he comes on stage and they turn to him, I’m like, ‘Joe, can you get it out? Let’s get the words out.’”

Tapper told Lara Trump: “I think you were mocking his stutter.”

At the time, Lara Trump insisted she wasn’t aware Biden had a stutter and was commenting on what she believed were signs of his cognitive deterioration.

Tapper didn’t buy it then.

“I’ve already apologized to her,” Tapper told Kelly. “I called her months ago.”

Tapper declined to share the details of their “private” exchange but revealed: “After we did the research for this book and I realized how bad his [Biden’s] acuity issues were, I called Lara Trump and I said you were right.”
