Jana Kramer’s Surprising Parenting Take On Sunscreen For Her Kids Might Leave You A Little Red
Jana Kramer’s parenting stance on sunscreen is turning up the heat online.
With summer in full swing and UV levels soaring, Kramer is making waves — not just on the beach, but in the parenting world. During an in-depth conversation about the dos and don’ts for the summer months, the actor shared her reasoning on a recent episode of her podcast, “Whine Down with Jana Kramer,” where friend Kathryn Woodard joined her.
“I don’t use sunscreen on my kids, unless it’s going to be for hours out because I know they don’t burn,” she said. When she does apply the ointment, Kramer confessed that she puts it on her youngest — but not her other two children.
Kramer shared that her concerns center around what’s in sunscreen itself, stating, “There’s so much bad stuff in sunscreen.”

“What’s worse: the burn or the suntan lotion?” she mused.

Kramer’s question touches on the ongoing fear-mongering about “toxins” in almost everything, from seed oil and food dyes to sunscreen — especially sunscreen.
However, while some sunscreens may contain ingredients that warrant closer monitoring, experts say there are many safe options — and using sunscreen is preferable to the risk of skin cancer from the sun’s rays.

“When people ask me which is riskier — sunscreen or the sun — the answer is always the same: the sun, hands down,” said dermatologist Dr. Oma Agbai to HuffPost in June.
On the podcast, Kramer unapologetically doubled down with a confident, “Come at me” to address any would-be critics.
Kramer shares son Jace and daughter Jolie with ex-husband Mike Caussin. She is also mom to son Roman, whom she welcomed with her husband, Allan Russell.
