Kansas City Chiefs Star Xavier Worthy Arrested On Domestic Assault Charge

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested in Texas on a domestic assault charge stemming from an incident that occurred on Friday, according to jail records reviewed by HuffPost.
Worthy, 21 was charged with assault by impeding the breath or circulation of a family or household member, a third degree felony. According to the state’s penal code, the charge refers to impeding breathing by “applying pressure to the person’s throat or neck or by blocking the person’s nose or mouth.”
If found guilty, the football player faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000. An attorney was not immediately listed under his jail records.
The circumstances surrounding Worthy’s charge were not immediately made clear as of Saturday. The Chiefs issued a statement to local FOX affiliate KCTV, saying, “We are aware and gathering information.”
Worthy was recruited by the Chiefs in last year’s draft, quickly becoming the team’s leading wide receiver in the playoffs and scoring two touchdowns against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl earlier this year.
