Stephen Colbert Says Trump’s Bizarre New Conspiracy Is Straight From ‘The Stupid Hole’
“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert said President Donald Trump delivered a “kind of very weird” answer to fairly ordinary question earlier this week.
A reporter on Air Force One asked about potential budget cuts at the Defense Department. Trump answered by saying “we’re gonna go into Fort Knox to make sure the gold is there.”

“OK, that wasn’t the question,” Colbert said. “So what the hell is Trump talking about?”
Fortunately, Colbert did the homework on this one.
“Follow me down the stupid hole, friends,” he said, then explained the “fringe” conspiracy theories about Fort Knox that tech billionaire/Trump backer Elon Musk has been “obsessed with” lately.
He also had an idea for what Trump might want to investigate after Fort Knox ― and broke out his impression of the president to explain it.
“We’re gonna see if there’s really silver at Long John’s,” Colbert said. “If the silver’s not there, then I solved that placemat for nothing.”
