TikToker Keith Lee’s Sushi Bar Visit Goes From Fine Dining To Fishy Fiasco

TikTok food reviewer Keith Lee ventured to a sushi bar in Seattle — and what took place was something that wasn’t on the menu.

During a recent food tour of the city, Lee visited FOB Sushi Bar, which he described as “one of the most recommended places” to try. In a Nov. 10 video review of his restaurant order, viewers noticed that something seemed to be moving on Lee’s chopsticks around the 1:51 mark, sparking rumors about what it might’ve been.

The sushi bar addressed speculation about Lee’s video in a Friday post on Instagram. The establishment assured its followers that “All seafood served at FOB Sushi is sourced from trusted suppliers.” The restaurant added that “the movement observed in the fish may result from natural elasticity or the pressure of chopsticks when applied to its structure,” rebutting suggestions that this indicated “health concerns.”

In a follow-up post on Sunday, Lee acknowledged the apparent movement.

“Somebody slowed the video down, and it did appear that something moved,” Lee said. “I can’t confirm or deny what it was, but I can confirm I am OK.”

He also expressed skepticism about the restaurant’s explanation.

“I’ve had sushi a thousand times and … never once have I seen sushi behave in that way,” Lee said. “As a customer, I shouldn’t be the one getting blamed for if it was something moving in the food.”

He said that “the only reason” he was making the follow-up post was because he’d seen a separate video alleging that a FOB Sushi Bar customer was hospitalized soon after Lee visited the establishment.

On Monday, the restaurant announced on Instagram that due to “recent food safety concerns,” it was closing its doors “until further notice.” The business added that it was “conducting a thorough investigation to address the situation and will take all necessary measures to prevent it from happening again.”
