John Oliver Sounds Alarm On Air Traffic Control With ‘Truly Honest Recruitment Video’

“Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver took a turbulent deep dive on Sunday into the mounting issues plaguing America’s air traffic control system.

It was anything but a smooth ride.

Air traffic controllers, whom Oliver praised as the “unsung heroes of the skies,” are responsible for the safety of about 2 million passengers each day, he noted.

But behind the scenes, he warned, the system is “under extreme strain.”

Oliver highlighted a long list of problems threatening the safety of the industry — from severe staffing shortages to crumbling facilities and aging technology to outdated equipment.

He ended the segment with what he called a “truly honest recruitment video.”
